Vinay Sharma, a convict of Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, reached the Supreme Court again 11 days before the date of hanging. He filed a curative petition demanding change of death sentence to life imprisonment. He alleged that all the courts, including the Supreme Court, prejudiced under pressure from media and politicians. Vinay claimed that he was sentenced to death for being poor. Referring to the Jessica Lal murder case, she claimed that Manu Sharma had also killed the woman mercilessly, brutally and without cause, but due to being from a powerful political family, she was only given life imprisonment.
